HTTPS is the more secure and updated version of HTTP that is quickly becoming the new norm. This video will show you how to implement HTTPS on your site, ensuring your website meets the security standards your users expect. HTTPS is a more secure version of HTTP. The "S" stands for secure, meaning the website uses a security protocol called TLS to encrypt the information between your computer and the website. Essentially, if an attacker tries to intercept the credit card information you're typing into the checkout of your favourite shopping site, they won't be able to read it as it will be scrambled and unreadable. Signs that your connection to a webpage is secure vary depending on your browser. You might notice a padlock icon and the word "secure" next to it. Eighty-seven of the top 100 websites have implemented HTTPS, and it is quickly becoming standard practice that consumers expect. Web browsers have recognised its importance too—browsers often warn visitors when trying to access a site without HTTPS, which can scare them away. Even search engines support this cause, as sites with HTTPS benefit from better SEO and will rank higher in search results. For small businesses, it makes sense to implement this extra layer of protection for your customers and your own benefit. All you need is a TLS or SSL certificate.
