The Basics:

Tanium is seeking a highly motivated, proactive attorney to join our legal team as product counsel. The right person for this position must be self-motivated, intellectually curious and willing to dig deep into the development of our products to become a trusted advisor for engineering and product management. We need a team player who is comfortable working across the organization and has a pragmatic approach to problem solving.&nbsp;

This position follows Tanium’s hybrid schedule which currently requires employees to work in the office at one of the following locations a minimum of three days per week: Addison, TX; Durham, NC;&nbsp; or Emeryville, CA.

What you’ll do:

<ul>

<li>Provide practical legal advice and counseling on a full range of product-related issues that arise domestically and internationally&nbsp;</li>

<li>Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering and Strategy teams through the entire product lifecycle to identify issues, recommend practical solutions, and assist cross-functional efforts to achieve go-to-market goals&nbsp;</li>

<li>Serve as a legal advisor on AI matters, including advising on AI policies, liability, licensing, responsible AI development, deployment, and risk assessments&nbsp;</li>

<li>Develop and enhance processes designed to ensure ongoing product compliance with global laws and regulations, including global privacy laws, data security, export control and trade compliance&nbsp;</li>

<li>Negotiate inbound and outbound license agreements&nbsp;</li>

<li>Participate in Tanium's open-source review process&nbsp;</li>

<li>Advise on privacy by design, privacy impact assessments, and data handling and minimization principles throughout the software development lifecycle&nbsp;</li>

<li>Review product collateral and marketing materials&nbsp;</li>

<li>Serve as a subject matter expert on our products for the Contracts and Legal teams and assist with contract negotiations&nbsp;</li>

<li>Support Tanium's incident response program and respond to security events&nbsp;</li>

<li>Contribute to Tanium’s IP strategy and product roadmap, including management of patent and trademark portfolios and IP enforcement activities in coordination with product teams and outside counsel&nbsp;</li>

We’re looking for someone with:

<ul>

<li>JD from an accredited institution&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

<li>Active and in good standing in at least one state bar&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

<li>At least 5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, government agency, and/or in-house, with substantive exposure to the software, SaaS, or related technology industry&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

<li>Familiarity with emerging AI legal considerations, governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act) and regulations, with the ability to translate requirements into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams&nbsp;</li>

<li>Working knowledge of global privacy laws and their impact on software product development&nbsp;</li>

<li>Exceptionally good communication skills&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

<li>Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a tightly-knit legal team&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

<li>Ability to work cross-functionally within an organization to build consensus and achieve strategic goals as well as the ability to enforce legal requirements without alienating clients&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>

What you’ll get&nbsp;

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $191,000 to $293,000. This range is an estimate for what Tanium will pay a new hire. The actual annual base salary offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, training, and experience.&nbsp;
