This is a nine-month programme starting on Monday, 1st February and we are looking for 11 talented journalists, six of whom will work in one of our English Regional newsrooms in ITV Anglia (Norwich); ITV Central (Birmingham); ITV Granada (MediaCity, Salford); ITV Meridian (Whiteley, Nr Southampton); ITV Tyne Tees & Border (Gateshead, nr Newcastle); or ITV West Country (Bristol). Two trainees will be based in our national newsrooms; one for ITV Cymru Wales in Cardiff and the other for UTV in Belfast. Two trainees will be working in our Network newsroom based in London, and one trainee will be based in our Jersey office for ITV Channel (St Helier). The ITV Academy News Traineeship is providing trainee journalist opportunities for those who are looking to start their career in News and is particularly keen to receive applications from those who are from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people and those from lower socio economic groups as we recognise that individuals from these groups are currently underrepresented in our industry. You will receive a salary of £30,195 per annum (£22,646 over 9 months) and five weeks paid annual leave pro-rata during the scheme, plus public holidays. A very high percentage of those who graduate from the programme have gone on to secure permanent roles across our regional, national and international news teams, both in front and behind the camera and ITV more widely, although there are no guarantees of continued employment beyond the 9 months.

Requirements

Commitment to a career in journalism through writing, work experience, academic choices or career so far.
Genuine interest in Journalism.
Evidence of having a GCSE in English Language 4/C or above.
Over the age of 18 by 1st February 2027.
Prepared to travel for training.
Based in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands with lawful right to work.
Not eligible for sponsorship.
Not open to people looking for a year’s placement during university.
Ability to work early, late and weekend shifts.
Ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
Use initiative and research skills for editorial roles.
Strong interest in news and commitment to journalism.
Original perspective and creative ideas.
Detail oriented with good spelling, language and grammar skills.
Ability to critically analyse a programme or text and draw out key themes.
