About the Role

The role is to co-ordinate Health & Safety (H&S) procedures for the Abingdon School Foundation which includes the Senior School, Prep School and Tilsley Park. A large part of the role will be to assemble and maintain central records of risk assessments, inspections and training which have been carried out by other responsible people. Arranging a suitable training programme is essential. Co-ordination of the school incident management plan is also a major part of the role.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a H&S role is desirable
  • Good knowledge and working understanding of H&S legislation is essential
  • Experience of H&S within a School is desirable, but not essential
  • Preferably qualified to NEBOSH or equivalent level
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative within general guidelines
  • Ability to solve problems rather than just identifying them
  • Proactive approach to H&S, with ability to identify compromise solutions where needed
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong administration skills, especially record keeping
  • Ability to manage competing demands and effectively prioritise
  • Competent computer user
  • Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
  • Values and respects the views and needs of children and young people

Benefits

  • Full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a half hour unpaid lunch break
  • Annual leave entitlement is 25 days (to be taken during the school holidays) plus statutory bank holidays
  • Salary between £25,000 - £32,500 (dependent on skills and experience, with some flexibility available for an exceptional candidate)
  • School’s auto-enrolment pension scheme
  • Support staff pension scheme (money purchase) whereby the employee can contribute 6.4% and the School will contribute 14.1% of salary
  • Free school lunches are available during term time
