We are looking for a commercially-minded Finance Director to own and scale Finance operations across Asia and Australia, partnering closely with senior leadership to drive growth and profitability in one of the most complex and fast-moving eCommerce environments in the world. This is a full-time role based in Guangzhou, China.
What is a day in the life of a Finance Director?
Own the full FP&A cycle across Asia and Australia, from annual operating plan through monthly close, forecast, and variance analysis
Business Partnering: Serve as the primary financial thought partner to the Managing Directors of Asia and Australia and their leadership teams on key business decisions
Strategic Planning: Build and maintain long-range financial models that inform regional expansion, investment prioritization, and resource allocation
Forecasting: Develop rolling forecasts that integrate financial and operational KPIs, with enough granularity to drive action at the region and brand level
Reporting: Design and deliver reporting that gives leadership a clear, current view of performance vs. plan, and tells them what to do about it
Decision Support: Lead high-impact financial projects that cut across functions and geographies, delivering the analysis and recommendations that drive the region's most consequential business decisions What will I need to thrive in this role?
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA, CFA, or MBA a plus
8-15 years of progressive Finance experience in complex, matrixed, or multinational businesses
Proven ability to lead with influence rather than headcount (expected team size of ~2-3 people)
Commercially sharp communicator who can align stakeholders across cultures, functions, and time zones
High tolerance for ambiguity; thrives in fast-moving environments where structure, process, and playbooks are still being built
Hands-on operator with a bias for detail – willing to build the model and present it to leadership
Deep FP&A skills across budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning, grounded in solid accounting fundamentals
Fluent in data – experienced turning large, complex datasets into scalable reporting and decision-support tools
Native AI user – integrates AI meaningfully into daily workflows and project delivery, not just as a novelty
Proficient in cloud-based Finance platforms (Netsuite, Workday Adaptive, etc.); Excel super-user
Mandarin and English fluency (written and spoken)
eCommerce, Retail, or large global organization experience strongly preferred What is the team like?
You will partner with the Managing Directors of Asia and Australia and work with functional leaders in all areas of the business. You will report to the VP of International Finance Operations in the US and lead other Finance and Accounting team members across APAC. The team is data driven and results oriented. You will collaborate regularly with members of your team to implement and drive actionable solutions. Ideas and input are encouraged from all members.

Why This Is a Most Loved Workplace® Certified Job
Systemic Collaboration
The global ecommerce market represents a $6 trillion opportunity, and we are just beginning to tap into its vast potential. Our senior leadership team is exceptionally strong, fostering an environment that offers employees numerous opportunities for advancement and professional growth. Additionally, our proprietary method for hiring top talent serves as a key competitive advantage, enabling us to attract and retain the best in the industry.
Positive Vision for the Future
Pattern values are rooted in the beliefs and behaviors of our employees. Instead of creating aspirational values without a solid foundation, we identified and embraced the values already demonstrated by our team. These four core values—to be a team of doers, data fanatics, game changers, and partner-obsessed—originate from within our workforce and serve as guiding principles for all aspects of our operations, from hiring practices to daily interactions and work processes.
Alignment of Values
Dave is the most data-fanatical, game-changing, partner-obsessed doer we have in Pattern, and those behaviors are constantly on display. Dave also models balancing work and family. It’s not uncommon for Dave to excuse himself from a meeting that has gone a bit over to attend a family event.
Respect
Our employees participate in weekly check-ins with their managers, fostering an environment of two-way feedback. This commitment to open communication extends to our founders' open-door policy, regular town halls, engagement surveys, and an anonymous feedback form. We view feedback as a valuable gift and have established multiple channels to ensure it is consistently gathered and utilized.
Killer Outcomes
Our bonus structure rewards collaboration across teams— bonus KPIs are typically tied to more than one function. Additionally, our hybrid work format has employees in the office three days a week, and we aim to have larger meetings scheduled for those in-person days when possible. We believe that some of the best collaboration, ideas, and innovation come from people being able to bounce ideas off of each other in-person.
