About the Role

At Stripe, a Most Loved Workplace® certified employer in the Financial Services space, Economic infrastructure for the internet, powering ambitious businesses globally..

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe's mission is to increase the GDP of the internet. We build the most powerful and flexible tools for running an internet business — handling billions of dollars each year and enabling millions of businesses worldwide to scale faster by building on Stripe. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Our tax team works with Stripes across Stripe to develop an efficient operating model as our international business scales and expands into new markets and launches new products. EMEA Tax supports Stripe’s growth across the region by helping Stripe meet its tax obligations, manage tax risk, and make well-supported decisions as Stripe’s products, systems, and operations evolve.

You will be based in Dublin and report to the EMEA Tax lead, who is located in Dublin. This role will develop and lead a best-in-class global R&D incentives programme.

What you’ll do

You will be Stripe’s European R&D incentives lead, responsible for developing and leading Stripe’s R&D incentives programmes in Ireland and the UK. You will support Stripe’s US federal and state research-credit programme and will explore new opportunities as Stripe continues to expand globally. You will build trusted relationships with engineering and product teams, establish repeatable processes for identifying and documenting qualifying work, and ensure Stripe can support its global R&D incentives claims with contemporaneous evidence.

You must be able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and independently lead complex, high-impact work. You will translate complex technical activity into clear documentation, and help Stripe enhance its global R&D incentives processes.

Responsibilities

Act as Stripe’s European lead and technical expert for R&D incentive and grant claims.

Support the annual US federal and state research-credit study, quarterly tax-return and FIN 48 estimates, and tax-audit requests relating to US federal and state research credits.

Own the end-to-end technical documentation required to support Stripe’s European R&D incentives, from project identification and engineering interviews through evidence collection, writing technical reports, and retention of audit-ready files.

Own the analysis of eligible R&D expenditure and preparation of robust financial calculations to support Stripe’s R&D incentives claims.

Design and lead process improvements that enhance the efficiency and robustness of Stripe’s R&D incentive claims, including strengthening controls, developing scalable and automated process enhancements, and improving data and documentation quality.

Assist with technical responses to tax authority queries relating to R&D incentives claims.

Partner closely with Finance, Engineering, and cross-functional teams.

Monitor changes in relevant tax legislation, tax authority guidance, and R&D incentive and claim practices.

Monitor engineering growth across Stripe and assess new R&D tax incentives and grant opportunities globally.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

6–8 years of relevant experience preparing or managing Irish R&D tax credit claims or global R&D incentive claims.

An engineering or computer science qualification or a technology-related background combined with finance qualifications or experience.

Strong understanding of the Irish R&D tax credit regime, including the assessment of qualifying activities, technical uncertainty, systematic investigation or experimentation, technical documentation, and eligible expenditure.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong technical report writing and engineering-interviewing skills.

Strong project-management experience, with the ability to independently lead high-impact projects, manage detailed evidence requirements, and deliver across multiple jurisdictions’ deadlines.

Strong attention to detail, sound professional judgment, and the confidence to challenge unclear project descriptions or unsupported assumptions.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment.

Willingness to learn, ability to quickly acquire knowledge, and ability to work autonomously and within a team.

Preferred qualifications

Prior experience with UK and US federal and state research credits.

Experience supporting Irish Revenue R&D audits, tax authority enquiries, or evidence reviews.

Experience analysing eligible R&D expenditure and preparing financial calculations for R&D tax-credit claims.

Experience applying for and preparing documentation in support of IDA grants in Ireland, or R&D tax credits and grants globally.
