Senior Accounting Specialist

<p>This function plays a key role in strengthening our Finance & Accounting function as we expand operations across Portugal. Reporting to the <strong>Accounting Manager</strong>, you’ll be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and full compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.</p>

<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong>:</p>

<p><strong>Financial Accounting & Reporting</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing.</li>

<li>Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and management reports in compliance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).</li>

<li>Support the Accounting Manager in group consolidation activities and audit coordination.</li>

<li>Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accurate cost allocation across projects and entities.</li>

</ul>

<p><strong>Tax & Compliance</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Ensure compliance with local tax obligations, including VAT, withholding tax, and corporate income tax.</li>

<li>Liaise with external advisors and auditors to manage statutory filings and audit requirements.</li>

<li>Support intercompany accounting, transfer pricing documentation, and tax reporting for cross-border operations.</li>

</ul>

<p><strong>Process Improvement & Systems</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Contribute to the rollout and optimization of accounting systems (ERP, expense management, automation tools).</li>

<li>Streamline processes and controls to ensure scalability as Start Campus expands into new markets.</li>

<li>Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures that align with group standards.</li>

<li>Lead and improve internal control and financial reporting processes.</li>

</ul>

<p><strong>Business Partnering</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Work closely with FP&A, Treasury, and Project teams to provide reliable financial data and insights.</li>

<li>Support project-level accounting for infrastructure investments, including CAPEX tracking and cost control.</li>

<li>Translate accounting outputs into actionable information for management decision-making.</li>

</ul>

<p><strong><u>Requirements</u></strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.</li>

<li><strong>Certified Accountant (CC)</strong> in Portugal, or in the process of certification.</li>

<li><strong>5–8 years</strong> of experience in accounting, preferably in similar role, audit, infrastructure, or multinational environments.</li>

<li>Strong knowledge of <strong>Portuguese GAAP</strong>; familiarity with <strong>IFRS</strong> is a plus.</li>

<li>Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (SAP, or similar).</li>

<li>Ability to build strong relationships across teams and earn trust through professionalism and reliability.</li>

<li>Fluency in <strong>Portuguese and English</strong>.</li>

<li>Experience in capital-intensive or project-based industries (e.g., energy, construction, real estate, or data centers) is a plus.</li>

<li>Previous involvement in process automation or system implementations.</li>

<li>A proactive mindset with the ability to balance detail orientation and speed.</li>
